school sports grantA sports grant for schools and community groups in London

What is it?

FreeSport is part of the Mayor of London’s Sports Legacy Programme and it awards grants to groups that want to deliver free sport activities for Londoners.

Who can apply?

Applications are accepted from not-for-profit groups, including schools, local authorities, voluntary and community groups and social enterprises.

If you are applying as a school, please note that activities taking place during school hours (i.e. a form of PE lesson) are not eligible. Activities taking place on school property but outside of school time (e.g. after school clubs) are eligible.

To be eligible for this round of funding, you need to be able to attract 20% previously ‘inactive’ participants, provide a minimum of 8 hour activity, ensure that 70% of participants take part in a minimum of 6 hours activity and ensure that 10% of participants consider themselves to have an impairment, disability or require assistance to take part in activities.

What is available?

You can apply for a grant of £400 to £1,500.

Funding is awarded twice a year for projects to run during the summer (July to October) and the winter (January to April).

How do I apply?

You can apply online. Please read the guidance notes, available on the FreeSport webpage.

If you have any questions, you can ring the FreeSport helpline on 020 3291 3021.

The next deadline is noon on 9th May 2016 for activities running between 18th July and 31st October 2016.
