New funding from the Education Endowment Foundation
The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) has launched a new round of funding specifically aimed at raising the attainment of pupils classified as having English as an Additional Language (EAL). Research has found that there is massive variation in the results achieved by pupils classified as EAL.
What is it?
£2 million worth of funding is available for projects that:
- Focus on improving on improving learning outcomes for EAL pupils, and have some existing evidence of positive impact on their attainment;
- Be funded to test the intervention across a number of schools;
- Be evaluated by an independent evaluation team; and
- Have the potential to be scaled-up further if shown to be cost-effective.
Who can apply?
The following organisations can apply:
- Primary or secondary schools
- Academy chains
- Further Education Colleges and Sixth Form Colleges
- Registered charities
- Local authorities
- Not-for-profit organisations
- Universities
- Social Enterprises and Community Interest Companies.
Lead applicants must be not-for profit organisations or public bodies.
It is expected that between 3 and 5 projects will be funded in this round. The expected minimum grant size is £50,000. There is no maximum grant.
Projects are expected to begin working in schools in Summer 2016.
How do I apply?
To apply, you need to register for the round via the EEF website and complete the Initial Application online form. Guidance notes are provided.
The deadline for Initial Applications is 5pm on 1st October 2015.
